Q: What are the standard dimensions of a 4’x8’ sign?
A: A 4’x8’ sign is 4 feet tall by 8 feet wide, or 48 inches tall by 96 inches wide.
Q: What file format should I use for my custom 4’x8’ sign?
A: We accept PDF, EPS, TIF, OR AI files!
Q: What resolution does my artwork need to be?
A: We recommend 300 DPI resolution for signs that will be seen from a distance, but if you don’t happen to know what resolution your artwork is, or don’t have the capability to export your artwork at that high resolution, have no fear! Our design team will look at your artwork and determine if the resolution is up to snuff, and if not, we will work with you to make sure your sign resolution will turn out crystal clear.
Product Features
• Corrugated Plastic Substrate:
A type of fluted plastic substrate that’s sturdy and durable, while still being lightweight enough to easily install into the ground or hang up! We offer this sign in two different thicknesses – 4mm, which is approximately ¼” thick, and 10mm, which is approximately ½” thick.
• UV-Resistant Ink:
The ink on our signs is guaranteed to resist fading from ultraviolet radiation for at least 2 years in direct sunlight.
• Vinyl Laminate:
Your graphics are printed on vinyl with a strong pressure-sensitive adhesive backing.

Sign Design
At 1-800-The-Sign, we make designing your 4'x8' sign easy. You can design your sign one of 3 different ways:
1. Upload your artwork!
Upload your logos and any other artwork you may have directly on our website using the “Upload Artwork” button on our order form! Click the button, browse through your computer/mobile, and select the file you wish to upload. We accept PDF files, EPS files, AI files, and TIF files. If you have more low-resolution JPEG or PNG files, please feel free to upload those as well. If our designers feel the resolution is too low to print clearly on your sign, they will reach out to let you know and work with you to make your design crystal clear. From there, you can select your desired colors, and even add additional information you’d like to have on your sign in the “Sign Message” text box located on the same page.
2. Use our EZ Design Tool!
Design your sign on your own! You can start from scratch and add your logos, colors, and artwork, or you can start from one of our many sign templates, and personalize it to fit your unique branding style.

Sign Care
Our signs are designed to withstand the weather and hold up for years, but life can be messy! Birds may drop by, dogs might leave their mark, or a muddy splash from a passing car can leave your sign looking less than perfect. When it’s time to clean it up, here’s how to do it safely while protecting the print:
Cleaning Tips:
• General Washing: Use warm, soapy water and a soft sponge (no abrasives!). Think of it like washing your car — gentle is best to avoid scratches.
• Spot Cleaning: Windex is great for quick cleanups and won’t damage the print.
• Rinsing Off: You can hose your sign down with no worries — even well water won’t cause rust since it’s made from durable corrugated plastic.
• Drying: Let your sign air dry in the sun or gently wipe it with a soft towel or paper towel.
What to Avoid:
Stick with mild cleaners. Avoid anything harsh like alcohol, bleach, or strong chemicals — they can fade the ink, damage the vinyl, or weaken the adhesive and sign material. Steer clear of products like Clorox, Scrubbing Bubbles, mildew removers, Comet, Soft Scrub, or Lysol. A good rule of thumb: if it’s too harsh for your car, it’s too harsh for your sign!
How to Install
For our 4'x8' sign in 10mm thickness, we have 3 sign holder options available – we call them our “Post Kits.”
• Our PVC Standard Post Kit will hold one single or double sided sign, and installs directly in the ground. The kit includes two 8 ft tall posts, a set of tracks for the sign to slide into and holds the sign in the frame, as well as a set of flat plastic post caps and all the screws needed for installation.
• The Arrow Post Kit is of similar structure to the Standard, but allows two single sided signs to be held by three 8 ft vertical posts in a V shape. This kit also installs directly in the ground and contains two sets of horizontal tracks to hold the signs in place, the set of flat plastic post caps and all the screws needed for installation.
• Our Self Standing Post Kit is a flat based design that allows the sign to be free standing on any flat surface, perfect for asphalt or cement. This kit includes the posts, horizontal tracks, standard flat caps, and screws.
Gothic Caps are available as an elegant alternative to the flat plastic caps for all three of these installation options!
You can request holes (for 10mm signs) or brass-plated grommets (for 4mm signs) if you plan to hang your sign or secure it with zip ties. Prefer a more permanent setup? You can also drill directly through the corrugated plastic to mount your sign to a wall with screws.
